Homemade Laundry Detergent

Why I use it:
  • It is very inexpensive
  • It works very well
  • And last but not least, my daughters and I always make it together...memories!!!
Here's what you need:

  1. A 5 gallon paint bucket with a lid
  2. 1 cup of Arm &Hammer Washing Soda
  3. 1/2 cup of Borax
  4. 1 bar of Zote or Ivory Soap ( I prefer Zote, but if I am using Zote I only grate about 1/2 of it)

1st Step: Grate the soap in a saucepan with water and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the soap is dissolved.

2nd Step:Fill bucket half way full with hot tap water then add the melted soap, borax and washing soda. Now, finish filling bucket the rest of the way with hot tap water.

3rd Step: Stir contents of bucket until well mixed.

Optional 4th Step: Pour laundry soap into an old laundry dispenser( you can dilute the mixture with 1/2 of the solution in the bucket and 1/2 water if you like to make it go further)

I generally use about 1/4 to 1/2 of a cup( depending on what I am washing) of laundry detergent for a large load.

Happy Washing!!!
